1808年、ナポレオン占領下のスペインで、抵抗派の男が「自由くたばれ！」と叫びながら処刑される。現代のパリでは、公園で遊んでいた少女が見知らぬ紳士からもらった観光地の写真を両親に見せると、両親はそこに写った建造物に眉をひそめながらも性的興奮を覚える。容態の悪化した父のもとへ急ぐ看護師の女は、道中で次々と奇妙な人たちに出会う。互いに関係のない不思議なエピソードの数々が、様々な偶然を介して緩やかに連結されていく。
