戦争
第一次世界大戦真っ只中の1916年。中立を守るアメリカでは、テキサスの農場に暮らしていた青年ローリングスが土地を追われ、新天地を求めてフランスへ渡る。そして戦闘機パイロットの活躍を知ると、自分の未来を懸けて“ラファイエット戦闘機隊”に参加するのだった。彼はそこで、同じように事情を抱えてアメリカからやって来た仲間たちと出会う。パイロットとしては全くの素人の彼らを、司令官のセノール大佐は温かく迎え入れる。ある日、ローリングスは訓練中に不時着事故を起こし、若いフランス人女性ルシエンヌに助けられる。彼女に一目惚れしたローリングスだったが、そんな中、ローリングスと仲間たちの初陣の時がいよいよやって来る。
