Passagère clandestine à bord d'un bateau en partance pour La Nouvelle-Orléans, Deborah McCoy, une entraîneuse originaire de Boston, est enlevée par le pirate Frederic Baptiste, qui pille les embarcations du riche armateur Narbonne pour venir en aide aux marins défavorisés.
