L'histoire commence avec Jennifer Strange, 15 ans, qui remplace le directeur manquant, M. Zambini, pour une agence de recrutement de magiciens appelée Kazam. Une prophétie prédit que le dernier dragon mourra bientôt, ce qui signifie que le territoire du dragon est à saisir. Essayant de trouver la vérité, Jennifer trouve le tueur de dragons officiel et est poussée à devenir son apprentie. Commence le pire. Le tueur de dragons meurt et Jennifer devient la dernière dragonslayer, ce qui signifie qu'elle sera celle qui tuera le dragon.
