Wilbur Hoolihan tue accidentellement un cheval appartenant à King O'Hara et à sa fille Princess. Tenant absolument à le remplacer, il part dans un haras, avec son ami Grover Mockridge. Ayant conclu un accord pour emporter un vieux canasson pour trois fois rien, ils se trompent et repartent avec un vrai champion, Tea Biscuit. Le colonel Brainard, propriétaire de Tea Biscuit, est prêt à tout pour retrouver son étalon et offre une récompense à celui qui le ramènera…
